The majority of us can recite the nursery rhymes, “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep,” or “Little Bo Peep.”  Each one of these rhymes involves sheep.  Sheep have been very important in the lives of mankind for centuries.  They were raised, at one time, primarily for their skin, meat, and milk.  The skin was used to make warm garments.  Later, sheep wool was woven into a very popular fabric.  Sheep were one of the first wild animals to be domesticated.  They were thought to originate in Central Asia, and they were brought to this country by Christopher Columbus.  Sheep are the most-mentioned animal in the Bible.  People who worship God are referred to as sheep or flocks, in both Old and New Testaments.  (Isaiah 40:10-11) (Mark 6:34)

We are now in the middle of winter, with the first week in February being the exact middle week.  Activities have slowed down a bit, but the GV Charity Crafters are faithfully meeting on Thursday afternoons.  The youth group meets at 5:45 PM on Sundays, and there’s a Bible Study at 7:00 PM on Wednesdays.

“The Good Shepherd” was the title of Bro Tim’s message last Sunday, with scripture taken from John, chapters 9 and 10.  This involved two events in Jesus’ life:  healing the blind man, and the story of the good shepherd.  Some questioned Jesus, whether the man born blind was due to sins of the parents, or of the man, himself.  Jesus said, “Neither,” and He healed the man (John 9:1-3).  Jesus also told how a good shepherd would care for his sheep, especially referring to the importance of the gate the sheep came and went through.  Jesus referred to Himself as the “gate,” and only through Him will one be saved (John 10:7-10).

The Bible challenge question:  What relationship was Annas to the High Priest Caiaphas? (John 18:12-14)
