Today, we have many old adages that are commonly used, e.g. “Look before you leap.”  It’s amazing how many old adages come from the Bible, such as “a drop in the bucket,” meaning an extremely small amount (Isaiah 40:15). Other examples are “the skin of my teeth” (Job 19:20); “by the sweat of your brow” (Genesis 3:19), and “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9).  There are many more of these Biblical adages.  There is no doubt the Bible has been a big influence in all of our lives, whether we realize or acknowledge it.

The fall activities at GVCC have begun.  It is so good seeing our youth group learning about Jesus and His Word, and also having a good time.  If you don’t believe adults can run and play (along with the youth), you need to come and see for yourself.  While you are there, stay for a wonderful study of Jeremiah.  These two events are on Sunday evenings at 5:45 and 6:00 PM.  We also have two couples who are opening their homes for Bible Study during the week.  Ed and Sharon Seidel, Tuesday evenings, and Bob and Jo Ann Fenwick, on Wednesday evenings, would be happy to have you join them.  We have been blessed, on two recent Sundays, to welcome two ladies who have come forward to place their membership with GVCC.  We are so happy to watch our congregation grow, and we give the praise to our Lord Jesus.

Bro Tim’s message came from the first chapter of James.  James writes about developing perseverance so that we may develop maturity.  James also points out that temptation is not from God, but from ourselves (James 1:13,14).  We need to be careful of anger and to put God’s words in action. True religion is to worship the Lord, read the Bible, and obey its commandments.  In doing so, we will be blessed by the true God.

The Bible challenge question:  Whose bed was described in the Bible as more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide? (Deuteronomy 3:11)
