A little girl, in a bad mood, pulled her younger brother’s hair and kicked him in the shin.  In seeking the reason for the deed, the mother asked the little girl why she had let Satan put it in her heart to be so mean to her brother.  The little girl answered, “Well, maybe Satan did put pulling his hair in my heart, but kicking his shin was my idea.”  Unfortunately, the hearts of men, through anger, hatred, and frustration, sometimes come up with their own idea of evil.  King David’s son, Absalom, is a prime example of this.  He not only disrespected and defied his father, but also tried to usurp his father’s reign as king (2 Sam 15:10-18).  There is none totally immune to doing bad things, big or small, therefore vigilance is always necessary.  (Matt 15:19)

A delicious carry-in meal was enjoyed by those attending last Sunday.  GVCC is blessed to have an abundance of good cooks among us.  GVCC extends its deepest sympathy to Les and Holly Smith, due to the passing of Les’s mother.  While we grieve with Les, the angels rejoice in welcoming another saint into their midst.  Bible study has resumed on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM, at the church building; the topic of the study is the Chronological Life of Christ.

Last Sunday, Bro James continued the messages of the miracles Jesus performed.  The scripture was from John 5:1-5 and detailed the healing of the lame man.  This miracle took place at a pool called Bethesda, in Jerusalem.  Many ailing people came to this pool to be cured by being in the water.  A man who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years was lying at the side of the pool.  Jesus asked the man if he wanted to be healed, and the man replied that he had no one to put him in the water.  Jesus immediately healed the man and told him to pick up his mat and walk.  Since this healing was done on the Sabbath, walking in this manner was forbidden by Jewish rule.  When the man did as Jesus said, it angered the Jewish leaders against Jesus (John 5:16).
