The people of Scotland revere a simple oblong block of red sandstone that is called “The Stone of Destiny.”  This stone is on display at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland.  It was believed this rock, known as the “speaking stone,” proclaimed the chosen king of Scotland.  Legend has it that the stone goes back to biblical days and was the stone Jacob slept on (Gen 28:10-15).  Through numerous twists and turns, it was brought to Scotland by the invading Scots.  On Christmas day of 1950, the stone was stolen, but was returned the following April.  It is not clear if the actual stone was returned, but it still remains a symbol of the independence of Scotland.  The symbol of Christians is alive and well in the form of Jesus Christ, who will return to this earth someday.

It was joy being in the Lord’s church last Sunday.  After the extreme heat and humidity of the last few weeks, the weather was beautiful.  “A Great Church?” was the title of Bro Tim’s message.  Acts 2:41-47 gives us an example of what a great church should be like.  It tells of a church that grew rapidly and turned the world upside down.  On the day of Pentecost, the church grew by three thousand people.  The people participated in the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, prayer, and communion (breaking of bread), followed by action, benevolence, selling property to give to the needy, and then experiencing joy.  The word of God has examples we should follow, rather than following man-made opinions.
