Golden Valley Christian Church

Probably, few people have heard of Cape Tribulation, located in northern Queensland, Australia, near the Great Barrier reefs.  It has become a resort area for a number of people.  The interesting thing about Cape Tribulation is how it got its name.  Captain James Cook, a British navigator, was sailing the coastline when he hit one of the reefs.  Doing minimal damage to the vessel and thinking he was in deep water, he continued on, but then he hit another reef, sustaining more intensive damage.  On the Captain’s log in June 1770, Captain Cook wrote, “Here began all our trouble,” which resulted in the name Cape Tribulation.  Very few people live a lifetime without having troubles.  Even the Psalmist speaks of it. (Psalm 77:3-4)

What a joyous day Golden Valley Christian Church had last Sunday, when our youth led the morning worship service!  Our morning greeters were Asa and Azariah Jones, Claire and Olivia Daughenbaugh, and Micah Keithley.  The opening remarks were by Alyssa Tucker and Sarah Mendenhall, and the scripture reading was assigned to Isaac Daughenbaugh and Sienna Raysik. The song leaders were Maya Daughenbaugh and Victoria Gregory.  Our first morning prayer was by Lauren Tucker.  The communion meditation and prayer were by Atticus Jones and Jake Mendenhall, and the offering meditation and prayer were by Abrielle Jones and Olivia Tucker.  “Youth Sunday” was a great success!  Our thanks to Melynne Jones for all of her work in coordinating and directing the children’s part in our morning worship.

Bro Tim’s message coincided with Youth Sunday.  The message title was “Are Kids Important in the Church?” with scripture from 1 John 2:12-14.  There is no question the youth are vital in a church.  Addressing them as “dear little children,” John was actually speaking to new Christians.  To sum up the message, Bro Tim asked, “Are you really followers of Jesus? Are you growing and maturing, and have you grown like Jesus?”  (1 John 2:3-6)

The Bible challenge question:  How did Jesus show His love of children? (Matt 19:13-14)
