Golden Valley Christian Church

Have you ever paid attention to summer sounds?  When the winter months are upon us, we will probably yearn for the sounds we take so for granted in the summer.  For example, open your door around twilight, and listen to an opera of cicadas.  If it seems especially noisy, it could be because we are experiencing part of the 17-year cicada.  One of the attributes of this insect is how loud this noise is.  However, soon the noise will fade; the female will lay eggs in hidden places on the trees, and the serenade will cease.  Summer will fade, and we will be preparing for the autumn months. (Eccl 3:1-8)

One of the best things to happen in any church is to see the pews filling up with attendees, as we did last Sunday.  We were blessed with two of our young ladies, Maya Daughenbaugh and Abrielle Jones, doing a little skit, reminding us about items to be given for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  These boxes will be filled in November, but now is the time to plan for it.  Georgia Randall sang a beautiful musical special, “Broken and Spilled Out.” After church, we all enjoyed a bountiful carry-in luncheon, honoring our appreciation of Tabitha Killen, who is preparing to relocate.  It was a truly great day to spend in God’s house with our church family.

Bro Tim’s message was taken from Judges 6:1-16, entitled, “Gideon – Coward or Warrior.”  As implied by the title, this message was about Gideon, a man God called to defend Israel from the Midianites and the Amalekites.  Because of their continual sinning, God had allowed the Israelites to be overcome by these enemies.  Finally, the people turned back to God, praying for help.  Gideon considered himself a nobody, but God called him a mighty warrior.  He even questioned God, and needed assurances.  Gideon can be an example to each one of us.  God promised Gideon He would be with him.  We still have that promise today.

The Bible challenge question:  Instead of taking the ark of God to Jerusalem, where did King David take it? (2 Samuel 6:9-11)
