Golden Valley Christian Church

Best-selling novels are sometimes written by authors retelling some of their own experiences. Herman Wouk was one such author, writing about some of his experiences on a destroyer-minesweeper on which he served in the Pacific Ocean.  The 1951 Pulitzer Prize novel, “The Caine Mutiny,” relates the experience of Wouk’s service during World War II.  The book revolves around morals and decisions sea captains had to make and results of the decisions.  The novel was made into a movie in 1954.  There are books in our Bible that are written by men who are relating their own experiences with God and Jesus Christ.  Much was written about morals and decisions made in that time period also.  Unlike a fictional--even though based on truth--novel, our Bible is a true source of information to live by.

The Golden Valley Christian Church, along with Katrina Keithley’s family, hosted a baby shower for Katrina last week; the building was beautifully decorated, and Katrina received many useful gifts. Remember, the solar eclipse will occur next Monday, August 21st.  Also, remember to be picking up items for our “Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes.

Bro. Tim’s message, “The Church with a Mission,” was taken from Matthew 28:16-20.  Before His ascension to Heaven, Jesus gave His last commandments to the eleven disciples.  This included evangelizing, baptizing, and teaching.  These remain Jesus’ commandments to Christians today.  Jesus loved the church so much He gave His life for it.  Let us never forget that the church is people, not a building.  The mission of the church today is still to equip people to read and understand the Bible.  A great church will share the Gospel and follow the New Testament example.
