Have you ever wondered why God made the mosquito or chigger? These are two nuisances we put up with in the summertime. Another example is the Japanese Beetle, a bane for flowers and plants. This nasty bug is not native to the U.S., but thought to have entered the country in a shipment of iris bulbs. Then, there is the beautiful butterfly, which we first observe as a starving worm on plants, eating every leaf on the plant. All of these insects go through a metamorphosis--egg, larva, pupa, and become either an unwanted bug or a beautiful butterfly. When we think of it, isn’t this the same type of thing a person goes through to become a Christian? First, we have to hear the Word of God; we have to believe the Word and accept it as truth; we have to turn our life around; we have to confess; we have to be baptized. This does not take place overnight--but finally, a Christian, like a beautiful butterfly, emerges. (Eph 4:11-16)
The GVCC congregation extends their sincere sympathy to Dennis and Shirley Wilson, at the death of their son, Paul. Our love and prayers go out to the Wilsons and also to his grandmother, Louise Crawford. The bicycle group is at it again—there will be an all-church bike ride on Katy Trail, to Windsor and back. Those participating always have a great time.
In the absence of Bro Tim last Sunday, Ken Jones brought the message, entitled “Visiting.” The Greek word for visit is episkeptomai, which has a different meaning than the word “visit” that we understand today. The definition for that word is “to look upon in order to help or to benefit; to look after, have care for, provide for.” The Old Testament, especially the KJV, used this word and meaning more than the New Testament. Matthew 25:41-46 would be a good example. We do not exist for ourselves, but to care for and help our fellow man.
The Bible challenge question: When God called Moses to go on Mt Sinai, how many days was he there? (Exodus 24:18)
