Golden Valley Christian Church
We will all agree, it has been really hot in Clinton the last few weeks. Yet, we are blessed that we do not live in some of the hottest spots in the world. Death Valley National Park is situated near the border of California and Nevada. Records show that on July 10, 1913, the temperature soared to 177.4 degrees F. In July 2018, the average temperature was 108.1 degrees F, with four continuous days of 127 degrees F. That almost makes our 95–100-degree weather sound cool! There is even a hotter place, according to the Bible. The Bible talks about Hell being down (2nd Peter 2:4 KJV) and indicates it will be hot (Matt 25:41 KJV). Some scientists have tried to estimate how hot Hell might be. We are told Hell is deep, in what we assume is our earth. The estimated core temperature of the center of the earth is between 9,000 and 11,000 degrees. Understanding this concept should make people think about their relationship with God. We are given choices, and they should be considered wisely.
Sadly, COVID seems to be on the uprise again. GVCC is saddened to have some of our numbers afflicted with this illness, including our minister’s family. Our prayers go to all that have fallen ill with this virus, wishing them a quick recovery. For some happy news, one of our own has officially retired from his work. A retirement reception will be held at the Elks Lodge for Dr. Ken Jones this Thursday, July 28, from 5-7 PM.
Due to quarantine, Bro James was unable to fill the pulpit, so Bro Tim graciously filled in. The message came from 1st Peter, Chapter 1. After giving a short history about the Apostle Peter, Bro Tim pointed out the word, “apostle,” means one who is sent forth. Peter was not only a disciple, but an Apostle. He was chosen to do this work. As Christians, we also have been chosen. We cannot save ourselves, so God provided a way to salvation by sending Jesus to this Earth. Thus, we must choose. We can do this through God’s grace by believing and having faith in Jesus and doing His will. The answer and solutions are very simple, but we must be the ones to take action, believing in Jesus and living according to His words.
