Golden Valley Christian Church

Saturday, July 20th, was the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, walking on the moon.  Last Sunday, one of our younger church elders, bringing our communion meditation, reminded us of that historic day.  Anyone born after 1969 would view this event simply as history, just as they would the depression of the 1930’s and WW2.  People who lived through those trying times were influenced by them and can vividly recall them.  These monumental events took place long before this young man and his peers were born.  Then he reminded us of how many centuries it has been since Jesus went to the cross, died, and was resurrected.  For Christians, this is the most monumental historical time ever.  Though this happened over two thousand years ago, we are still reminded of our Lord’s great sacrifice, through our communion service every Sunday (Matt 26:26-27).

Last Sunday, GVCC enjoyed a carry-in meal with warm fellowship.  A sincere thank you goes to all who help in any manner with these meals.  A number of visitors were welcomed by the congregation.  Bob Fenwick blessed us with his musical rendition of “Unclouded Day,” and then, with Bro Tim and Georgia on vacation, Bro James Crooks, from Northland Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri, shared a message from the Bible.

Bro Crooks’ message revolved around several people in the Bible.  Each one of the people had definite messages for all of us.  Naaman was healed from leprosy by obeying the prophet Elisha (2 Kings 5:13-14); Rahab saved the Israelite spies from death (Josh 6:22-23); Jonah, after disobeying God at first, saved an entire city (Jonah 3:10).  God uses everyday people to accomplish his purposes.

The Bible challenge question:  What was the significance of Ebenezer? (1 Sam 7:12-13)
