Golden Valley Christian Church

A number of years ago, a famous evangelist held a meeting in St. Louis.  A St. Louis newspaper published part of the sermon under the title, "How the Jailer at Philippi was Caught."  This article fell into the hands of a jail inmate named Valentine Burke, a notorious criminal.  Thinking it was jail news, the criminal began reading the article with glee, until he noticed phrases like "Believe on the Lord Jesus and be saved."  He threw the paper down, with disgust, as "religious junk," but still could not get the scriptures out of his mind.  Eventually, Burke gave his life to Jesus, and this hardened criminal became a new man with joy and peace.  What a great testimony!

Golden Valley Christian Church will be starting a new series, "The Story," on September 28th.  All are invited to this study of the Bible.  Bro. Tim's message, "Your Influence," was based on scripture from I Peter 2:1-12.  This epistle was written to Christians living among unbelievers.  The Christians had been given a lot of misinformation about the church, and Peter was trying to correct this.  Peter stressed traits (malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander) that we are to avoid.  Our emotions can master us, or we can master them.  Christians are to live lives as nearly like Jesus, so that we may be an example and influence for others.

The Bible challenge question is:  "What stupid thing did Nabal do, and how did his wife rectify it?'"  (I Samuel 25:4-37)
