We have heard much about our freedom in the past few years.  Freedom is a relative thing.  What can be free for one person can be a prison for another.  God’s laws and freedom are given to enrich our lives, never to harm us.  A doctor told this story about one of his obese patients, who had a number of health issues.  The doctor prescribed for the patient a diet, by which he could become more healthy again.  The patient angrily declared, “No one, not even my doctor, is going to take away my freedom to smoke or eat what I want.”  In a few months, that “freedom” cost the man his life.  We need to be very careful in our freedom choices, while also using our freedom to love and help others (Gal 5:13-15 NIV).

Vacation Bible School began last Sunday at GVCC.  This is a wonderful time for children to learn more about God’s Word in a fun way.  Melynne Jones is in charge of this program and does an exceptional job.  We are happy to report that GVCC sent a very nice donation, to IDES for the Ukrainian refugees and also to Mission to Russia, from our fifth-Sunday collection.  A very heartfelt thanks to all who donated so generously to these needy missions.

Even adults respond to messages that are different and enjoyable.  Bro James brought such a message last Sunday, with scripture from Acts 16:16-34.  With audience participation, the story of Paul and Silas, being imprisoned for freeing a slave girl from a spirit, to the salvation and baptism of the jailer and his family, was retold.  Many details of this encouraging story, that could possibly have been overlooked, were revealed.  Through Paul and Silas’ faith, God freed them, and with teachings from Paul, an entire family was brought to God and His salvation (vv 32-34).  We must never underestimate the power of prayer and faith.
