Golden Valley Christian Church

In 1759, Robert Burns was born in Alloway, Scotland.  He became, considered by most, the official poet of Scotland.  Burns wrote many poems, some set to music.  One in particular, “Auld Lang Syne,” is sung by millions on New Year’s Eve.  One poem he wrote, “To a Louse,” had a passage that showed deep thinking and forethought.  This passage will endure time forever: “Oh would some Power the gift give us, to see ourselves as others see us.”  If you had this gift, would it make a difference?  Do we sometimes think we are held in higher esteem by others than we actually are?  We should always remember that God does see who we are.  God even knows our thoughts.  Jesus proved this when He knew the thoughts of the Pharisees (Matt 12:25).

Olde Glory Days is here!  This Sunday evening, there will be a concert of gospel music at the Benson Center.  It will be an opportunity to hear some wonderful music, so mark your calendars to attend.

Bro James’ message began with a review of his week at West Central Christian Service Camp, where he taught classes and worked with the youth who were attending.  His message then focused on Joshua 24:2-28.  Bro James pointed out that we may condemn the way the Israelites were reacting to God at that time, but many people are acting in the same manner toward God today.  We need to keep in mind how much God has blessed us.  In this passage, Joshua declared he and his household would serve God (v 15).  Today, as believers, it is up to us whether we will do the same thing.
