The majority of people are familiar with the poem, "Footprints in the Sand." There is a controversy about who wrote this poem. Margaret Fishback Powers and Mary Stevenson both claim the authorship. However, Powers has convinced Hallmark that she is the true author of the poem, which she claimed she wrote when she was experiencing a devastating time in her life. Despite this debate, "Footprints" is an uplifting piece of work in which many people find comfort.
Last Sunday was devoted to the fathers in our congregation. Pictures of the fathers, in their youth, were displayed, and we tried to guess who they were. Each father in attendance received a gift. Matt Campbell, Bro. Tim's son-in-law, served as our worship leader, using his guitar as accompaniment.
Bro. Tim's sermon focused on the father in the "Prodigal Son" parable. A good father has a significant impact upon his children. In this parable, the father set a good example for his sons, he set down rules, and he put his faith in God. Most of all, his sons knew he loved them. The lesson for us is that no matter how far we have strayed from God, He knows where we are and patiently waits for us.
The Bible challenge question is: "To whom was Jesus telling 'the parable of the prodigal son?'" (Luke 15:1-2)
