Golden Valley Christian Church
A story is told of a much-loved minister with the burden of a long-ago sin which he had asked forgiveness for. In his congregation was a lady who claimed to have visions where she talked directly to Jesus. Skeptical of her claims, the minister asked her to have Jesus tell her about the minister’s sin. A few days later, the minister met the lady and asked her what Jesus said about the sin. The lady answered, “Jesus said He didn’t remember.” When we are sincere in asking for forgiveness of our sins, not only will they be forgiven, but also forgotten (Hebrews 8:12).
Last Sunday, GVCC honored fathers on their special day. Darren Daughenbaugh started the morning with a brief, but fun, game of “Simon Says,” involving the entire congregation. This activity was a reminder of how children can imitate the behavior of others, right or wrong, including fathers! Mark Radtke held the distinction, in our congregation, of having the most children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren! All the men received a small gift from the church. After the services, a delicious meal was served. Thanks to all who helped make this day so special.
A delightful video of fathers and their children paved the way for Bro James’ message. While we honored fathers and father figures, Bro James also pointed out some responsibilities. Fathers should always be willing to sacrifice, serve, suffer, and submit. The Bible clearly tells the husband to love his wife as Christ loved the church, even giving His life for it (Eph 5:25). It is also the duty of the father to teach their children the right way to live and to lead them to a loving relationship with Jesus. While setting a good example, he is to lead the way, humbly (Micah 6:8).
