Last Saturday, Clinton was in the path of a very serious storm. With the weather warning on cell phones blaring, and the city sirens going at full steam, people were warned to take immediate cover. Thankfully, the full brunt of that weather system did not hit Clinton squarely, although there was some damage done. Did you know Missouri has tied a record for the most-deadly tornado since the Weather Bureau started keeping statistics? On May 22, 2011, a massive tornado, growing to three-quarters of a mile wide during its four-mile track, hit Joplin, killing 116 people, devastating the city. The people who were killed surely didn’t get up that morning thinking it would be their last day of life. Each of us needs to be prepared for the day we will be called home and face judgement, because “one day” could come sooner than we think.
Vacation Bible School is almost upon us. Melynne has requested those donating supplies, please bring them next Sunday, June 4th. It will be much appreciated.
Last Sunday’s morning Bible study was about “serving.” When asked about the meaning of the word, one respondent said, “A humble opportunist.” That made some in our discussion scratch heads, but as the lesson wore on, that phrase turned out to be quite true. We never know when the time will arise for serving others. Christians should be ready to help at any time. Bro. Tim continued the morning message in the same vein. If we serve with the right motive, we will be blessed. Bro. Tim counted a number of ways that GVCC members had selflessly served others throughout the previous week. Jesus, who served mankind on earth and died on the cross, is our perfect example for serving others (Mark 10:44-45). Be a “humble opportunist,” and watch for ways to serve as our Lord and Savior did.
The Bible challenge question: What are the four things the writer of Proverbs does not understand? (Proverbs 30:18-19)
