Golden Valley Christian Church
The majority of us probably have a few unsavory ancestors. The fact is, Jesus did, too. Take Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus, for example. Most Jewish genealogies did not include women, but Matthew included five women in his, with one not formally named (Matt 1:6). Only one (Mary) was Jewish. Tamar and Rahab were Canaanites, Ruth was a Moabite, and while Bathsheba was an Israelite, she had married a Hittite (Uriah), so she was legally considered to be a Hittite. Four of these women had somewhat of an unsavory reputation. Even Abraham, the stalwart of God, did some questionable acts of morality. The point Matthew was making was that God’s blessings were going to be for all nations, not just the Jewish community. Jesus’ ancestors, like ours, were human with human faults. Jesus came to this earth, so that we all are given the opportunity for complete redemption, even though we have sinned (Romans 3:23-24).
Vacation Bible School for 2022 is now history; our sincere thanks to Melynne Jones and everyone who helped in any and every way! Last Sunday morning, the congregation was treated to a recap of the VBS event, with a power point presentation of photos and song. Some of the children also enthusiastically demonstrated the motions of the theme song, “Concrete and Cranes.”
Bro James’ message was a reminder that we, like Paul (Philippians 1:1), are called to be a servant of Christ Jesus. Seeing our lives in the right perspective allows us to focus on the bigger picture, for we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). The important thing (our purpose) is to preach Christ to the hurting and lost world in which we live.
