Golden Valley Christian Church

Our nation has just observed another Memorial Day.  We, at GVCC, also memorialized those who gave their lives to advance the freedoms of this nation.  A somber video was shown of memorials this nation has erected, honoring these heroes.  We always need to honor all of the survivors who served in these horrible wars, including smaller, but just as deadly, hostilities.  The veterans of World War 2 (1939-1945) that are still with us, are in their late 90’s and older.  The veterans of the Korean (1950-1953) and Vietnam (1960-1975) Wars, are also aging.  We should never forget September 11, 2001, the catalyst that sent thousands of our troops into a miserable conflict in Afghanistan.  Memorial Day is a day to reflect on what each of our veterans gave for this nation.  The Bible tells us of many heroes, including King David and his brothers, who fought the Philistines (1 Sam 17:13; 48-54).  The greatest hero of all time is Jesus (1 Pet 2:24).

Vacation Bible School will start this Sunday, June 5-8, from 6:30-8:30 PM.  If you need more information, contact Melynne Jones.  Because of VBS, there will be no Bible study on Wednesday, June 8th.  Baked beans and boxes of instant mashed potatoes, collected for West Central Christian Service Camp, were delivered this week.  Last Sunday’s offering is going to help the Ukrainian refugees and Mission to Russia.  Thanks to all who helped in these efforts.  We are happy to have Bro James McFarland and his family officially living in Clinton now.  The McFarlands tell us they are extremely happy to be here, expressing how much they like our town.  We are happy they are here, too!

In Bro James’ Memorial Day message, he pointed out that God gave the order for the first memorials, citing many that were ordered by God in the Old Testament.  The Lord’s Supper, observed weekly by GVCC, was a memorial set up by Jesus himself, on the night he was betrayed (Luke 22:17-19).  Bro James also stressed that Christians need to do some things consistently.  We need to read, study, and memorize the scriptures, and to pray aloud, unapologetically.  We need to share and show our faith to others and practice humility.  We also need to love God and to love others as we love ourselves (Matt 22:37-39).

Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton.  Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 AM, and the morning worship service is at 10:30.  We have a Bible study on Wednesday evenings, at 7:00 PM.  Our minister is James McFarland (office phone # 660-890-0252), and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org, where you will also find links to access our Facebook page and past YouTube sermons.  We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.
