Golden Valley Christian Churh
This Sunday we will be celebrating "Mother's Day." It was one hundred and one years ago, 1914, that President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May as the observance of Mother's Day. This followed a resolution by Congress the year before. Mother's Day was first observed in the Philadelphia churches in 1908, at the suggestion of Miss Anna Jarvis, of that city. Children of all ages will be helping mothers have a happy day.
A few men from our church spent this week at a "Men's Clinic" in the Kiamichi Mountains in Oklahoma. Bro. Tim informed the men there would be no ties and no shaving. If caught doing these things, there would be fines, all done in good fun. The ladies Bible study continues on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM.
Bro. Tim's message focused on the resurrection of Jesus and the days of turmoil it brought. We wonder what the twelve apostles were thinking as they watched Jesus die on the cross. Would they have thought all the prior work they had done was for nothing? Even though Jesus had told them He was going to die, it evidently did not connect with them. There was complete despair, with no hope, in this group of men. When Jesus did appear, there was much awe and rejoicing.
The Bible challenge question is: "For what reason did Simon offer money to the apostles?'" (Acts 8:18-19)
