This state we live in is quite unique.  It has been categorized as both a Southern and a Midwestern state.  The Census Bureau categorizes it as a Midwestern state.  The flatlands and rich farmlands of northern Missouri are quite different from the southern terrain of the state, due to the great glacier of centuries ago.  Missouri ties with Tennessee for bordering the most states, eight each.  While Missouri is called the “Show-Me State,” it has also been called the “Mother of the West,” possibly due to the Pony Express originating from St. Joseph, and St. Louis, which is known as the “Gateway to the West.”  The name of the state comes from an Indian tribe, the Missourias.  The third Wednesday in October is celebrated as “Missouri Day.”  The Bible is also unique.  It traces the history of the Israeli nation, from Abraham to Jesus, with all of the trials and errors it encountered.  It is as fascinating as any novel, and so much more relevant; reading it can actually change lives.  (Phil 4:4-7)

GVCC is in preparation for VBS, which will be held June 23-26, 6:30-8:30 PM.  If you are helping by donating needed supplies, please bring your items to the church by June 16th.  For those who like baseball, plans are being made to go to Springfield for a game between the Springfield Cardinals and the NW Arkansas Naturals; you will need to sign up so that further plans can be made.  Last Sunday, GVCC was blessed by a trio of Rosanna Cross, Ken Jones, and Georgia Randall, singing “Gathering Flowers for the Master’s Bouquet.”  Most of our musical specials are live-streamed on GVCC’s Facebook page.

“Disciples” was the title of Bro Tim’s message, using scripture from Matthew 28:18-20.  We need to grow in our faith and knowledge of Christ, so that we may not be enticed to sin.  We should teach our children, so that they will grow strong in their beliefs.  We should obey God’s Word, law, and will—not our own.  In other words, we should become disciples of Jesus, following and teaching in the manner He did, with words that will be forever enduring.

The Bible challenge question:  Name the four young Judean men that King Nebuchadnezzar chose to serve in his palace. (Dan 1:6-7)
