Golden Valley Christian Church

According to a 2021 survey, approximately 22% of United States citizens attend church weekly.  Another 30% attend irregularly.  Many people that do not attend a church may have some very mistaken ideas about attending church.  There was a gentleman who was trying to invite his neighbor to church.  He did not want to jeopardize the chance to witness to this neighbor by appearing too “religious.”  He finally asked the neighbor, “Where do you think sinners go?”  The immediate reply was, “To Hell.”  “No,” the man said.  “They go to church.”  The neighbor did not know what to say.  Think about that for a moment.  Christians know they are sinners (Romans 3:23).  Remember, a church is not a palace for saints, but a hospital for sinners.

Last Sunday was a special day, with mixed emotions.  We honored our interim minister and his wife, Elmer and Elaine Fuller, with a farewell luncheon.  Bro Elmer has been filling our pulpit for over a year.  While we are sorrowful that we will no longer see the Fullers, we also are rejoicing to have our new minister, James McFarland, and his family in Clinton now.  We look forward to a long and successful journey with the McFarlands.

Bro Elmer’s last message came from the sixth chapter of Daniel.  By this time in Daniel’s life, the Persian-Medes had conquered the Babylonians, and King Darius was on the throne.  Because Daniel was a favorite of Darius, the other officials plotted for his demise.  Urging the king to sign a decree that no other god could be worshiped, except the king, they knew Daniel would continue to pray to the living God.  The penalty was to be thrown into the lion’s den, which is what happened to Daniel.  After a sleepless night, Darius rushed to the den and called out to Daniel, who was unharmed.  God had sent angels to seal the lions’ mouths.  The corrupt officials had used Daniel’s faith to attack and try to destroy him.  The corrupt officials were then thrown into the den, with no angels to defend them.  Daniel’s faith saved him.  It is a lesson for all of us.  All of us should “dare to be a Daniel.”
