Golden Valley Christian Church
The loon is a bird that is not native to Missouri; however, it does pass through on its migration to and from our northern states in spring and autumn. The loon is an odd bird. Its legs set farther back on its body, and its bones are dense, making it difficult and clumsy to walk or to take off in flight. Once in flight, though, this is a powerful bird, able to fly at great speeds, capable of diving much deeper and faster in water to find food. God has given this bird particular qualities for its existence. Likewise, God has given skills and talents to each person, not only to exist, but to bear witness for Him (Romans 12:3-8). It is our job to use these gifts.
Golden Valley Christian Church, along with most churches, celebrated Mother’s Day last Sunday. Each mother received a nice little gift in honor of the day. A table was set up for individuals to display a picture of themselves with their mother. It was an interesting display as we tried to guess the identities of mother and child. We were delighted to have Jo Ann Snider’s granddaughters, Olivia and Abigail Plessinger, bringing our morning music. Ken Jones and his father, Donnie Jones, playing the banjo and guitar, respectively, joined the Plessinger ladies, playing their violins, in leading the congregational singing. It was truly a day of joy and praise.
The message, entitled “Chosen” (Luke 1:26-35, 46-56), was a recap of the announcement and birth of Jesus. Bro. Tim recounted the reasons that Mary was chosen by God and how she still remains a model for all mothers to follow. Mary’s heart was attuned to God, and her genuine faith should be the goal of all Christians, not just mothers.
