Golden Valley Christian Church
Horatio Spafford was a man of great sorrows. He lost a fortune in the great Chicago fire, and he had a four-year-old son who died from scarlet fever. In 1873, his wife and four daughters left on a French liner for Europe. During the trip, the liner collided with another ship and immediately sank. Spafford's four daughters were among those lost, and he traveled to England to reunite with his wife. During this time, Spafford was heard to quietly say, "It is well; the will of God be done." He later wrote words to a famous hymn, still sung today, "It Is Well with My Soul."
The ladies Bible study continues each Wednesday evening at 7:00, in the fellowship hall of the church building. Georgia Randall leads the study, and you are welcome to attend.
Bro. Tim's message, "The Hour of Darkness," focused on the crucifixion of Jesus. The religious rulers taunted Jesus to come down from the cross. Why did Jesus not come off the cross? Why did He even die on the cross? There are a lot of "why's" concerning the crucifixion. If Jesus were to save us, He could not save Himself. In order to give us salvation, it took God's holiness and infinite love to allow His Son to die on the cross. In other words, it was because of His great love for us that kept Jesus on the cross.
The Bible challenge question is: "Who was the apostle that wanted to follow Jesus and "die with Him?'" (John 11:16)
