Edward Jenner is a name most will recall, but how many will recall what he was famous for?  It was Jenner that introduced the first successful vaccine for smallpox, a devastating disease that was responsible for the deaths of many people.  Jenner, a physician and scientist, was born in England in 1749.   It had been observed that milkmaids who had suffered cowpox, a disease of cows, were immune to smallpox.  Edward Jenner proved this theory, and from that, introduced the vaccine that has helped to mostly eradicate this disease.  The Bible also tells of people that have done great things but are not well remembered.  How many would immediately recognize the names of Shiphrah and Puah (Ex 1:15-17) or Ittai the Gittite (2 Samuel 15:18-22)?  Each one of these people played an important role in the Old Testament.

Despite the cold, last Sunday was a great day.  In Sunday School, we are in a five-week series, “What We Believe,” an enlightening study for all.  In our morning worship hour, Miss Abrielle Jones played a solo on the piano, “Ode to Joy.”  We are always happy to have young people use their talents for God.

Bro Tim’s message was entitled “Stand Firm,” with scripture from Isaiah 7:9.  This message focused on the death and resurrection of Jesus as a substitute for the sins of mankind.  At birth, Jesus was perfect, but He took on the guilt of everyone who believes in Him.  Because of Jesus’ power and resurrection, we can also be resurrected after death.  We are promised a new life and a new body when Jesus returns.  There is also a promised place for those who reject Jesus (Rev 20:14-15).
