Golden Valley Christian Church

There is no doubt for Christians, Resurrection Day (or the secular name, “Easter”) is the most sacred day we observe.  All of the beliefs and hopes of a Christian are tied to the resurrection of Jesus Christ after His death on the cross.  As it should be, this day is focused on Jesus.  It is the greatest celebration day in the year, for people who claim Jesus as their Savior.  However, Jesus was not the only one resurrected that day, and we seldom hear of those people. We do not know the names of these “holy people,” but as their tombs broke open, and they rose on that resurrection morning, we can have faith and hope that we, too, will someday be with Jesus.  (Matthew 27:52-53)

Ladies, this Sunday will be a break for you, because the men will be preparing breakfast at GVCC.  Breakfast will be at 9:00 AM, and there will be no Sunday School.  The youngsters will have an egg hunt after breakfast, and the worship service will be at 10:30 AM.  Lilies, brought in memory of loved ones, are beginning to adorn our stage.  It’s not too late to bring one.  Remember to tell Marla, so that the name of your loved one will be noted in the Easter Sunday bulletin.  Bro Tim has promised to share his violin talent if we have an attendance of 100, and we all look forward to that day!

Last Palm Sunday morning, we were blessed by Sharon Seidel with a solo of “O Worship the King.”  Bro Tim’s message was entitled “As He Approached.”  From Luke’s account of the triumphal entry of Jesus to Jerusalem, throngs of people were welcoming Jesus as a king.  Their version of a king was one that could overthrow the Roman occupation of Israel.  Many of this crowd of people were there for the Passover Feast.  Probably some had seen, or heard of, the miracles Jesus had performed.  Jesus entered the town, riding on a donkey, being praised and honored.  We know that Jesus’ kingdom was not an earthly one.  (Luke 19:28-44)

The Bible challenge question:  What did Jesus do when He approached Jerusalem? (Luke 19:41)
