Golden Valley Christian Church
For people who read and study the Bible, there is a certainty that always pops up. All of God’s laws are given to enrich our lives, never to harm us. We are given the freedom to obey God’s law or to reject it. A doctor told this story of one of his obese patients, who had a number of health issues. The doctor prescribed a diet by which the patient could become healthier. The patient angrily declared, “No one, not even my doctor, is going to take away my freedom to smoke or to eat what I want.” In a few months, that “freedom” cost the man his life. We need to be careful in our choices of “freedom.”
Last Sunday, the women of Golden Valley Christian Church hosted a baby shower for Monica Raysik. The tables were beautifully decorated with some very unusual “cupcake” centerpieces. Monica received many lovely gifts for the coming additions to her family, with an added bonus of fun and fellowship enjoyed by all. Thanks to all who sponsored this shower, with a special thanks to Anna Tucker for the great games and Georgia Randall for the delicious “baby face” cakes.
Bro. Tim’s message came from the second chapter of Galatians. The Apostle Paul was disputing the erroneous teaching, that Gentiles had to become Jews in order to become Christians. Paul reiterated the disagreement between himself and the Apostle Peter over the subject. Once people had accepted Jesus and were free from the burden of the Jewish laws, Paul did not want them to revert back to that teaching. Peter was also ordered by God to preach about Jesus to the Gentiles. Paul wrote to the Galatians, “. . . if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” (Gal 2:21)
The Bible challenge question: Did Jesus ever tell His Disciples to buy weapons? (Luke 22:35-38)
