Golden Valley Christian Church

The lady had been feeling badly for so long, she was desperate.  Her health had started deteriorating twelve years before, causing her a great deal of suffering, weakness, and listlessness.  Many doctors had tried to help her, but she kept getting worse, and her finances were practically eliminated.  Someone told her about a person who might be able to help, and in her desperation, she decided to try to see him.  This gentleman was in a crowd where she happened to be, and she knew this was her one chance to see if it would work.  She managed to inch her way up to him and touch his coat.  Wow!  Immediately, she felt better.  The man whirled around and said, “Who touched my clothes?”  His voice caused her to tremble with fear, and she knelt at his feet.  You can read to the end of this story in Mark 5:25-34.

GVCC has felt both sorrow and joy this past week.  Our sorrow is due to the passing of Jerry Eagles, one of our faithful members.  Jerry always had a smile on his face and a greeting to all. We extend our most sincere sympathy to his wife, Cindy, and family.  Jerry will be sadly missed, but we know that our loss is heaven’s joy.  Our joy came in seeing two of our youth, Maya and Isaac Daughenbaugh, make the good confession and be baptized by Bro Tim Randall.  We know the angels in heaven rejoice along with us.  The GV Charity Crafters continue to meet at 10:00 AM on Tuesdays, and Bible study is at 7:00 PM on Wednesdays.

Bro Elmer’s message came from Acts 6:1-3 and involved the duties of the leaders in the early church.  Due to disproportionate distribution of food to the widows, seven men were selected to right this matter.  This allowed the elders in the growing church to take care of the spiritual matters of the church.  The elders’ jobs in a church are to prepare people for works of service (Eph 4:12), to care for people (1 Pet 5:2), and for spiritual counsel (James 5:14).  Deacons are servants, responsible for tasks and handling benevolence and finance.  The primary role of a preacher is to fulfill the function of ministry of the word—the teaching, preaching, training and equipping of all of the church for following Jesus.  We should pray for the leaders in our church, encourage them, and allow them to do the work God expects of them.
