Julie Andrews sang a song, “My Favorite Things,” in the popular movie, The Sound of Music. All of us have favorite things, and there have been polls taken, asking people what some of their favorite things are. According to some polls, the most favorite holiday is Christmas, the favorite bird is the cardinal, the favorite flower is the rose (with the peony a close second), and the world-wide favorite animal is the tiger. What is the favorite Bible verse? Without a doubt, John 3:16 heads the list. However, there are a number of other passages that closely hit the top of this list of favorites; some of these are Matthew 6:33, Romans 8:28, and Matthew 11:28. Faithful reading of the Bible will help you choose your favorite ones.
Last Sunday, the angels in Heaven rejoiced with the GVCC family when Miss Abrielle Jones confessed her faith and was baptized by her father, Austin Jones. Abrielle faithfully attends church services with her family. A delicious carry-in lunch was enjoyed after the morning service. Bible study is held on Wednesdays, at 7:00 PM. The Charity Crafters meet at 10:00 AM, on Tuesdays.
Tim Randall brought the morning message, using scripture from Galatians 2:11-14. Although Peter was in Jesus’ inner circle and was fully devoted to Jesus, he made many mistakes. In this passage, the Apostle Paul is admonishing Peter for some of Peter’s errors, namely appeasing the Jewish Christians in their desire to make Jewish customs necessary for Gentiles to become Christians. One gross sin Peter committed was at the trial of Jesus, denying he even knew Jesus. When the rooster crowed, Peter realized what he had done, and he wept (Luke 22:54-62). Despite all of these errors, Peter was committed to Jesus and His message. This gives hope to all of us, as we make mistakes and do things opposed to the Gospel. As Christians, we know we will be forgiven because of God’s great love, when we ask His forgiveness, as Jesus intercedes for us.
