Golden Valley Christian Church
The body is a wondrous thing, and it is difficult to understand why anyone would doubt that such a complex piece of work was designed by a higher being. There are at least five things necessary for the body to exist, but there are three essential things needed: Oxygen, food, and water. Without oxygen, brain damage and death can occur within four to six minutes. It is estimated the body can go without food for three weeks or so, but only three to six days without water. The Bible emphasizes the essential need for water, mentioning it over seven hundred times. Jesus refers to “living water” with the woman at the well (John 4:7-13). Revelation 22:1-2 tells of the river of water of life, flowing through the streets of Heaven. On a more human side, in the Old Testament, David desired a drink of water from his hometown so much, that three of his “Mighty Men” broke through the Philistine line to bring it to him (2 Sam 23:15-16). Praise God when rain falls from the sky, for with it comes one of the essentials we need for life.
Realizing how quickly times goes by, plans for the annual Vacation Bible School began last Sunday with a meeting of those willing helpers, under the leadership of Melynne Jones. Did you know if you just read twelve pages a day, it would only take ninety days to read the entire Bible? If you need help in organizing a daily Bible reading program, there is a schedule available in the sanctuary. The GV Charity Crafters meet at 10 AM on Tuesdays, and Bible study is at 7 PM on Wednesdays.
Bro James McFarland, our new minister who will start his full-time ministry in June, brought the message last Sunday. Sharing some of the goals he has for the church, Bro James focused on some of the obligations of Christians. In Luke 6:46, Jesus asked why people called him “Lord, Lord,” and yet would not do what He asked of them. To be Christians, we must believe and do His will. Bro James expects GVCC to be a house of prayer, because prayer is essential in a Christian’s life. It is our obligation to teach and encourage and to be a good example to others, but the ultimate choice of following Jesus is an individual thing. Each of us has been given gifts, and it is our duty to use them to God’s glory.
