Golden Valley Christian Church

It was so good to have a brightly shining sun, instead of snow or ice, last Sunday.  Yet, how much do we really know about the sun?  We know our sun is in our solar system, but the fact is, the sun takes up over 99% of the mass in the solar system.  Earth is only a tiny part of our solar system.  To put it in perspective, if Earth were the size of a grain of sand, the sun would be as large as an orange.  The energy created by the sun’s core is nuclear fusion, the same energy in a hydrogen bomb, only many, many times more. The sun is vital for people on Earth to exist.  God, in His great wisdom, provided this for mankind.  (Genesis 1:16-18)

What joy it was, to be in our church service last Sunday.  Bob Fenwick, accompanying himself on the guitar, sang “The Great Speckled Bird.”  Bob also sings bass in the quartet of GVCC.  The congregation is blessed with many people giving so freely of their talents.  The GVCC crafters asked for prayers to go along with shawls they have made for two people on our prayer list; this is truly a loving ministry.  Also, in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, a carry-in lunch was enjoyed by many; thanks again to all that help in any way with the luncheons.  Don’t forget the revival, March 31st - April 2nd.  Be sure to mark your calendar for this event.

Chapter five of First Peter was the scripture for Bro Tim’s message, “To Elders and Young Men.”  This is the last chapter in First Peter and was also the basis of our last Wednesday night Bible study.  This chapter deals with advice Peter, who is also an Elder, gives to the scattered Asia Minor church leaders.  He urges these leaders to be shepherds over the flock, not because they must, but because they are willing.  Pride was to be kept out of the leaders’ attitudes, as well as all Christians’ attitudes.  Focus should be on God, not ourselves.  Peter describes the devil as a roaring lion, ready to devour any of us.  We must stay steadfast and true.

The Bible challenge question:  What is the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels? (Matt 14:13ff; Mark 6:37ff; Luke 9:12ff; John 6:5ff)
