Did you ever enjoy the taste of Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda?  In all probability you have, at least once.  This is a carbonated soft drink invented by a businessman, Charles Leiper Grigg, of St. Louis, Missouri.  The original name was too difficult to say or remember, so was changed to “7 Up.”  Another drink, invented by pharmacist Charles Alderton, was once sold at drugstores as a brain tonic, with ads claiming it “aids digestion and restores vim, vigor, and vitality.”  This invigorating drink was none other than Dr Pepper.  If either of these soft drinks is a favorite of yours, you might disagree with a survey from 2020, proclaiming Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola as the top carbonated soft drinks!  God, in his great wisdom, provides for all of our needs, including drink and food.  In the Bible, Deuteronomy 26:9 tells of milk and honey, and fish was a major staple in Jesus’ day (Luke 5:10-11).

The GVCC family extends prayers to those in our midst that are having health difficulties at this time; we pray God’s healing hand will be with them.  The Charity Crafters meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM, and Bible Study is on Wednesday nights at 7:00.  We are taking donations to send to IDES, to help the Ukrainian refugees.

Bro Elmer’s message was taken, in part, from Acts 5:1-10.  The message revolved around discipline in the church, and this particular passage tells the story of Ananias and Sapphira.  The early Christians sold their possessions and gave to those in need.  Ananias and Sapphira sold some land, but instead of giving all of the money, they kept part of it for themselves.  This in itself was not a sin, but apparently, they lied about the amount given to the church.  This lie was to God, and it could set an example to the rest of the church.  Therefore, Ananias and Sapphira were each struck dead by God (Acts 5:5-9).  There must be a pure foundation if the church is going to grow and flourish.  There are a number of punishments recorded in the Bible, but punishment is meant to restore and to love the sinner, not crush them.
