Golden Valley Christian Church
February 2019 will undoubtedly go down in the record books for the extreme weather we have experienced. February does have some interesting facts. The first part of February is midway between winter and spring. It is a month full of special events: Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, and Presidents’ birthdays. It is also a month of awareness, that includes National Heart Month, Black History Month, National Bird-Feeding Month, and Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month. By having less days than a lunar month, February, every so many years, has a black moon, which can mean the absence of a full moon or of a new moon in the month. Moons had little significance in the Bible; however, there is one verse you might want to read (Joel 2:31).
The special last Sunday morning was given by Mary Tuggle on the topic of grandchildren. Our Wednesday night Bible study on First Peter is meeting at the church building, through March 20th. This is truly a good study that we are enjoying and learning from. GVCC, with Melynne Jones as director, is preparing for this summer’s VBS; a meeting on this subject was held last Sunday.
Bro Tim’s message came from Chapter two of First Peter and was entitled Spiritual Houses. We were reminded in this message that we belong to God because He has purchased us with His Blood. There are some characteristics of which we should rid ourselves (1 Peter 2:1-2). We also need to obey the worldly authorities, for the Lord’s sake. We are to show respect to all and love our fellow believers. Our goal is to be a citizen of Heaven, where we will honor God.
The Bible challenge question: How did Jesus answer the father of the son possessed of an evil spirit? (Mk 9:21-23)
