Golden Valley Christian Church
Earlier this week, we had not had a lot of snow this winter. Many of us would say, “halleluiah,” because we all know what problems a large snowfall can bring. Sometimes, however, snow can be a blessing. During the great depression of the 1930’s, a simple treat like ice cream was a luxury, enjoyed only on rare occasions. A simple idea helped people turn a snowfall into a treat. “Snow cream” was invented by scooping up a large bowl of fresh, clean snow, adding a little sugar and flavoring, thus turning plain old snow into a delightful treat. This may be akin to the old adage, “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” As the Hebrew nation wandered in the desert, they grumbled about food. God sent them what He called “bread from heaven” (Exodus 16:4-5). If we look closely, even though we may not see it at first, we can find God’s blessings in every circumstance.
Last Sunday, we were privileged to hear our guest speaker, James McFarland. After the service, many of the congregation remained to enjoy a carry-in meal and to visit with Bro James and his family. We were happy to welcome back some of our attendees who have been absent due to illness or surgery. Bible study, at 7:00 PM, on Wednesdays, continues to delve into the chronological life of Christ. The GV Charity Crafters meet on Tuesday mornings, at 10:00 AM.
Bro James’ message was taken from Matthew 9:1-11. This scripture tells of the paralytic man who was brought to Jesus. People in Jesus’ day believed that an untreatable illness, like paralysis, was caused by sin and was a curse. The first thing Jesus did was to forgive the man’s sins, and then heal him. This angered the teachers of the law; Jesus knew their thoughts, and told them of their evil thoughts. Forgiving and healing this paralytic man showed those who witnessed it, that Jesus did have the authority to do so.
