Golden Valley Christian Church
The year of 2018 is now behind us, and the new year of 2019 has officially begun. Many in the United States observed an old tradition of eating black-eyed peas, because it is considered to be lucky. One of the challenges of changing the calendar to this new year is remembering to write “2019” instead of “2018.” Habits are sometimes hard to break and, after all, we have had twelve months of writing “2018.” Now is the time to make new resolutions. People who make statistics a business tell us that only 9.2 percent will keep a resolution the entire year. The majority of the resolutions, about 80 percent, will be broken by February. That is a pretty dismal record. There is one resolution that everyone should make and keep. This one resolution will help us the entire year: To put Jesus Christ as the top priority in our lives. If He is #1 in our lives, other things will fall in place. We are not promised there will be no upheavals in our lives, but we will be able to endure whatever does come our way.
This coming Sunday, GVCC will celebrate its tenth anniversary. There will be four Sundays of celebrating this milestone. We invite all who helped in any way to make this church a reality, to come visit us. Also, this Sunday, Mark Radtke will be ordained as one of the deacons at GVCC.
This past Sunday we were blessed with a guest speaker, Chris Ruhnke, the marketing manager for Show-Me Christian Youth Home. Chris, a very animated young speaker, narrated the story of Jesus giving sight to a blind man, as told in John 9:1-7. He was especially motivated to speak to the young people in the congregation. It is not always clear to us, but each one of us has a mission. It is our job to have a sensitivity and awareness of what our individual mission is.
The Bible challenge question: What was the method Jesus used to give the blind man sight? (John 9:6-7)
