Golden Valley Christian Church
"A smile is such a funny thing; it wrinkles up your face, and when it's gone you never find its secret hiding place. And since a smile can do so much by cheering hearts of care, let's smile a lot this Christmas time--such smiles go everywhere." (Copied) Christmas time is such a hopeful season, even for those whose hearts are saddened from the death of a loved one or some tragedy. We find hope in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The first Sunday in December, the Mendenhall family lit the first of our advent candles. Last Sunday, Paula Phillips and Savannah lit the second advent candle. We were also truly blessed with a delightful special when Savannah Phillips and Samantha Williams sang "Away in a Manger."
In his morning message, Bro. Tim pointed out that God did more than just send a baby to earth--He sent the Prince of Peace! God sent Jesus to preach the gospel (good news). There are times when a preacher and his message are not always welcome. Sometimes in His preaching, Jesus stepped on toes; He was not always welcome. Sometimes He preached where it was difficult to understand His meaning, and sometimes (as the Sermon on the Mount), He was very clear. The message Jesus brought can be summed up in one word . . . hope. Jesus is the ultimate "Christmas gift."
The Bible challenge question is: "Who named John the Baptist?" (Luke 1:13 & 59-63)
