Golden Valley Christian Church
December of 1941 does not stand out as a joyful, happy month. Early morning, December 7, 1941, Mitsuo Fuchida took off from the aircraft carrier Akagi to lead the way in a surprise bombing attack on the US Pacific Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The raid devastated the United States fleet, killing thousands of naval personnel and civilians. There are still people living today that remember that terrible day and the shock this nation felt when that dastardly deed became known. An amazing thing happened to Fuchida after the war. Hearing the word of Jesus from other Christian converts, Fuchida purchased a Christian Bible. After reading the scriptures, Fuchida accepted Jesus on April 14, 1950, and became an evangelist for our Lord. (See Romans 10:17)
Christmas activities are in full force at GVCC. Thanks to those who so beautifully decorated the building. This coming Sunday, December 10th, will be caroling, with a chili and soup supper, as well. Also, don’t forget our upcoming Christmas eve service, at 5:30 PM.
Last Sunday was a truly great day for GVCC. The youth of our church put on a fantastic program for a large crowd. The unusual rendition of Jesus’ birth was entitled “’Twas the Light Before Christmas.” There was the portrayal of the usual characters, plus census takers, innkeepers, star trackers, and two characters selling sunglasses. There were four different duets sung, with lots of action by the entire cast. The universal message of the audience was, “What a good program, and the youngsters were great!” Many thanks to the director, Melynne Jones, all of her helpers, and to the young people for a super program.
The Bible challenge question: What did the prophet Isaiah say the child of a virgin would be called? (Isaiah 7:14)
