Bethany Hamilton is probably not a familiar name in the Midwest.  Today, she is one of the leading surfers in the world.  However, the obstacles she has overcome, and her faith in Jesus, is an inspiration to all of us.  Loving to water surf, Bethany longed to become a professional surfer.  In 2003, at the age of 13, while surfing, she was attacked by a large shark that bit her left arm off.  This attack could have cost Bethany her life.  After a couple of months recuperating, she returned to surfing and has won many national awards.  Bethany said in one of her many speeches to disabled children, "I had a decision to make; either follow God, or give up on life.  I choose to follow God . . ."  What a great Christian example this young woman is.  (Deuteronomy 13:4)

Last Sunday was a beautiful day at GVCC for several reasons.  After the invitation was given, one of our faithful came forward, made the good confession, and was baptized.  As we continue to celebrate GVCC's tenth anniversary, Bob Fenwick, one of our interim ministers, gave a short recall of events while he was with us in that capacity.  After the services, the congregation enjoyed a delicious noon-day meal.  Sunday, the 27th, will be our final tenth anniversary celebration; we will be honoring those currently serving and looking forward to our future.

Second Corinthians 3:2-3 was the scripture for Bro Tim's message, "Pen and Ink."  The word 'Gospel' means "good news or good tidings."  The word has been popularized to be (G)lad tidings that (O)ffer pardon and (S)alvation with (P)eace, (E)ternal life, and (L)asting joy.  Many people will never read the Bible.  As Christians, we should be a walking letter as an advertisement for Christ that will help others find Jesus through us.

The Bible challenge question:  What were the names of David's wives taken by the Amalekites? (I Samuel 30:1-5)
