Golden Valley Christian Church

Does it seem like it was only a few days ago that we were ready to welcome 2018?  With all of the Christmas festivities over, we turn our attention to the new year, making resolutions that will hopefully be kept the entire year.  During this period of time in 1999, there were many dire predictions, some saying that the world would end with the coming of the new millennium.  The Bible tells us very plainly that we do not know what is going to happen, even tomorrow (James 4:14).  As the year 2018 slowly yields to 2019, let us each resolve to keep God’s most important commandments in this coming year:  Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:36-39).

Last Sunday was such a nice day!  We were blessed with a piano solo by Victoria Gregory.  The young people of the church made everyone a Christmas tree ornament and handed them out; thanks so much to Melynne and her Children’s Church group.  The final evening Bible Study for this year was last Sunday night; the next study will take place in the spring, before our annual revival.  Our Christmas Eve celebration was truly inspirational.  We thank Bob Fenwick for such a relevant poem, and we were blessed by a trio of Bro Tim, Bob Fenwick, and Ken Jones, singing “We Three Kings.”  We are so blessed, and give praise to our God.

With scripture from Matt 2:9-12, Bro Tim delivered his message, “Remember and Honor Christ.”  This is a special time of the year, as we gather to worship and honor Jesus’ birth.  God, in the form of Jesus, came to earth specifically to die on the cross, to take our sins away.  We should take time to praise Him in words and in song.  When we get discouraged or depressed, let us sing songs of praise to Him.  We are beggars and sinners when we come before God, but we leave as kings and queens because of His blessing.

The Bible challenge question:  Why did the Pharisees and experts in the law reject God’s council? (Luke 7:28-30)
