Golden Valley Christian Church

Did you know that Samuel Clemens, alias Mark Twain, was pulled out of school in the sixth grade by his mother and apprenticed to a Hannibal newspaper? He said later, "You have to educate yourself," which he did by reading voraciously.  A statement made by Mark Twain was, "I met a man once who told me that without words, you could not think."  That makes a positive statement about reading the Bible in this new year.  You cannot be a Christian without knowing what God expects of Christians.  The way you know, is by reading His Word and thinking upon it.

Last Sunday, Chris Tucker gave our morning prayer, and Austin Jones delivered the communion meditation.  Bro. Tim and Georgia were on a well-deserved vacation.  In Bro. Tim's absence, Ken Jones brought a very informative message, using material from a book, "Socrates in the City," which had nothing to do with Socrates.  The message, entitled "Worldview," showed how Christianity has helped change the world for the better.  This involved, in part, the belief of human dignity and respect of human life, obeying the laws of the land, and respecting our governing officers.  Denial, or ignoring these truths, leads to chaos and moral decay.  Many of our greatest discoveries, innovations, and technology were by devout Christians.  God, in His great wisdom, wanted the best for His children in their daily lives, and He sent His Son to prepare them for salvation.

The Bible challenge question is:  "What outrageous request did a mother ask of Jesus?'"  (Matthew 20:20-28)
