Golden Valley Christian Church

Beautiful Christmas decorations now adorn many homes and businesses in Clinton.  One favorite decoration is the Christmas tree.  Did you ever wonder why we have this tradition?  There are many stories as to how this came about.  Probably, the most accepted is that Martin Luther, walking through a forest in Germany, looked up and saw the stars twinkling through the branches; the sight was so beautiful, he brought a tree into his home to replicate this scene.  Other stories involve St. Boniface, leaving England to preach to the pagan German tribes; coming upon a scene in which people were worshiping an oak tree and ready to sacrifice a small boy, he angerly chopped the oak down, and a fir tree sprouted from the roots of the oak.  There are many legends about the Christmas tree tradition, but a star or angel at the top of the tree symbolizes the most celebrated birth in all of history, Jesus Christ. We wish for all of you, a blessed and happy Christmas.

Last Sunday, the quartet, composed of Rosanna Cross, Bob Fenwick, Ken Jones, and Georgia Randall, sang a beautiful rendition of “O Holy Night.”  It is always a treat and blessing when this group sings.  At 6:00 PM, December 24th, there will be a Christmas eve service; all are welcome to attend.

“Think of Others” was the title of Bro Tim’s message, with scripture from Matthew 20:28.  One of the main things stressed in the Bible is to do for others.  Jesus said of Himself that He came to serve.  If we cannot do something physically for others, we can always pray (Ephesians 6:18).  If you do not know what someone’s needs are, pray for their well-being.  Let people know you are thinking about them and praying for them.  There are always opportunities to help others.  If we live for Jesus, He will do His work through us (1 Peter 3:15).
