Do you know the difference between the words gray and grey?  Well, actually, they both are words for the same color.  The words realize and realise, meaning to become aware of something, are in the same category. The reason for these different spellings of the same word, is nothing but location.  The words spelled 'gray,' with an 'a' and 'realize' with a 'z,' are the only accepted spellings in the United States.  All four of these spellings are accepted in England.  The English language is a difficult language to understand.  It seems, at times, trying to understand the Bible is difficult.  A passage from Mark 11:12-14, tells of Jesus cursing a fig tree that had no figs on it, because it was not in season to have figs.  There have been a multitude of explanations why Jesus did this.  Some say it showed that while Jesus was God, He was also human, wanting something to eat.  Others think the tree was a symbol of people who were not spiritually prepared, and the list goes on and on.  It is simply one episode that we may never totally understand, but it does not take away the authenticity of the Bible.

January 30th will be a special day at GVCC, so please make a special effort to attend church that day.  We will have a guest speaker, James McFarland, and his family will be attending with him.  The GV Charity Crafters meet on Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M.  Committees for the new year are being formed, so if you would like to help in any capacity, there are sign-up sheets available.

For the next few weeks, Bro Elmer will be bringing our messages from the book of Acts. While this book is about the Acts of the Apostles, it also traces the beginning of the Church. The point of the early church was to share the message of Jesus to everyone, everywhere.  This concept was to make disciples, who would make other disciples, continuing on to make more disciples. We must love our fellow man.  Jesus gave us two commandments, one aimed at God, the second to other people (Matt 22:37-39).  Today, keeping this concept growing, we must love God, love people, and make disciples.  We must witness for the Lord and so be known as His disciples (John 13:34-35).
