When we think of volcano activity, perhaps the first thought is of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which laid the city of Pompeii under tons of lava. Or, more recently, of Mount St. Helens, in the state of Washington, which, in 1980, killed fifty-seven people. The continental United States has sixty-five active volcanoes, none east of the Mississippi River. Some of these volcanoes may be at risk of erupting, and scientists are keeping a watch on them, especially St. Helens. Eruptions of volcanoes, even without casualties, are dangerous to air traffic, as the volcano ash can cause jet engines to fail in flight. The Bible tells us that as this earth comes to an end, volcanoes will play a very active role, none of which has ever been known, e.g. Nahum 1:5-6 and Revelation 8:8.
Thirty-two shoeboxes were packed for Operation Christmas Child, with thanks to all who donated for this project. Also, remember that our Project Christmas Cheer commitment to collect “jello” gelatin and pudding boxes is still ongoing; we are still short of our goal, so please contribute by November 28th. The GV Charity Crafters meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 AM, and Bible Study is on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM.
Last Sunday, Richard Blake, Executive Director from Christian Prison Ministry of Mid-America, brought us an update on this valuable ministry and also brought our message. Through this ministry, during the past seven to eight years, five hundred sixty-five inmates have been baptized, giving their lives to Jesus. In his message, Mr. Blake used Luke 23:32-43 as the scripture, showing Jesus’ compassion for the criminal on the cross with Him. It is difficult to forgive some of the horrific crimes that are committed, as Jesus tells us to do, but it is God who will be the final judge.
