Golden Valley Christian Church
Alexis de Tocqueville is probably not a familiar name in most households today. He was a French citizen who came to America in 1831 to study its political and social system, and wrote a book called “Democracy in America.” Tocqueville is said to have penned these words: “Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.” If another analysis was made today, would our churches be full of believers listening to the truths and righteousness of the Bible? Apparently not, since the last Gallup poll showed that under forty percent of the population in our country attend church regularly. How sad that is. (Prov 14:34)
Sunday may have been a gloomy day outside, but it was a warm and lovely time inside the Golden Valley Christian Church building. Richard Blake gave us an update on the Christian Prison Ministry of Missouri; this is a tremendous mission, showing prison inmates the love of Jesus and how that love can change lives. The young people are preparing for their Christmas program, which will be on Sunday morning, December 3rd. Our annual congregational meeting will be next Sunday; we encourage all members to be there. This is a busy time of the year for all!
Before Bro Tim’s message, our quartet (Georgia Randall, Rosanna Cross, Ken Jones, and Bob Fenwick) did a fantastic job, singing “A Beautiful Life” (Life’s Evening Sun). This song will be on the GVCC Facebook page. In his message, Bro Tim asked the question, “How many times has God answered your prayers?” How many times have we praised God for doing so? We have been blessed so many times with answered prayer, but do we sometimes just take it for granted? A few scriptures tell us that if we ask, He will answer (Matt 7:11; John 14:14; John 15:7). We need to praise God at all times.
The Bible challenge question: Why did King Herod have John the Baptist arrested? (Mk 6:17-20)
