Golden Valley Christian Church

Recently, one of the ladies brought a dessert of pear crisp for all of our Wednesday night Bible study group to enjoy.  This brought to mind the “parable of the pear tree:”  A father had four sons. In January, he sent the first son to look at a pear tree and tell the father what he saw; the son reported that the tree looked ugly and dead.  The second son was sent to look at the tree in April; he said the tree was beautiful, with lovely flowers.  The third son looked at the tree in July and told his father the tree had little fruit on it, but the fruit was bitter, and the tree worthless.  The fourth son saw the tree in October; he reported that the tree had beautiful fruit that was very tasty.  “Thus,” the father said, “each of you saw something different.  Never judge on the basis of one encounter.” (John 7:24)

Thanks to all who worked last Saturday, sprucing up our building and grounds.  On Sunday, Frances Burris blessed us by singing a beautiful song, “Coming Home.”  We appreciate all those who contribute so much to the well-being of our church.  The Wednesday night Bible study, “The Truth Project,” continues to meet at 7:00 PM.

Are you a forgetful listener or a doer of the word?  Bro Tim related a story to us in his message, “Sam Smith or You?”  Sam Smith pulled into the church parking lot with his mind on problems relating to his wife and children.  As he entered the building, he was focused on his worries about his job and money.  During the worship service, Sam’s mind wandered to the problems of the coming week.  Sam received little comfort or enlightenment from the message.  Our minds should be prepared to listen and heed the Word (James 1:21-25).

The Bible challenge question:  What was the “yeast” Jesus warned His disciples about? (Matt 16:12)
