Golden Valley Christian Church
There is an old wives’ tale that says, “The weather in the first three days of the new year will rule the first three months of that year.” If that proves to be true, we have three months of cold, miserable weather ahead of us. We know that Missouri can host some pretty cold, snowy days. Edina, a small town in northeast Missouri, recorded a snow accumulation of over six feet for the year 1978. Fifteen and sixteen-inch snowfalls are recorded in other places at different times. So far, the small snowfalls and cold weather has not caused the cancellation of GVCC services. We have been blessed that so many of our faithful still attend when the weather is not so nice, as was the case this last Sunday. Even scriptures tell us how bad weather has consequences (Luke 8:23-25).
Bob Fenwick did a great job leading our morning worship, in the absence of our regular song leader, Ken Jones. During the service, Mary Tuggle read a humorous article, “The Passages You Have Never Seen.” When the invitation was given, Jerry and Cindy Eagles came forward, placing their membership with GVCC. The Eagles’ have been very faithful in attendance since they started attending last fall, and can be an example to all of us. We were rejoicing as this couple became a part of our church family!
“Is God Able?” That was the title of Bro Tim’s message, with scripture from Eph 3:20-21. Throughout the message, whenever Bro Tim asked, “Can God do anything?” the congregation responded, “Yes, God can.” We may not understand what God can do through us, but God can do anything. Bro Tim recounted stories from the Bible that showed how God used people to accomplish His will. We are assured we will be given power to do things if we have faith, but we must give God the glory.
The Bible challenge question: How did James, the brother of John, die? (Acts 12:1-2)
