Andrew Johnson became President of the United States, after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, at the end of the Civil War.  Johnson adopted Lincoln's plan of tolerance and reconstruction for the southern states.  U.S. Representative, Thaddeus Stevens, wanted to severely punish the southern states for their part in the Civil War.  A bitter controversy broke out with a number of problems, resulting in the impeachment and acquittal of Johnson.  God could have used the tactics of Thaddeus Stevens in punishing us for our sins.  Instead, God, in His tolerance and love for us, sent His Son to die on the cross, that we might have salvation.

Sunday, Georgia Randall sang the beautiful old hymn, "In the Garden."  Bro. Tim's message, "Obstacles," continued the narrative of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt.  Moses faced many obstacles in doing what God had asked him to do.  Some of these problems came from the people he was leading.  One major obstacle was the Red Sea, as the Egyptian army pursued them.  The people began blaming Moses for the plight they were in.  God heard the complaints, and His actions overcame the impossible.  The people crossed the sea on dry land.  We still face obstacles today, but with God's help, we know we can overcome them.

The Bible challenge question is:  "Will there be marriages in heaven?'"  (Luke 20:27-35)
