Ulysses S. Grant, eighteenth president of the United States, was arrested and had to pay a fine for speeding.  This may sound amusing, since cars were not invented at that time.  Because of an upsurge of accidents between buggies and pedestrians, police in the DC area started cracking down on “speeders.”  Policeman William West stopped a speeding buggy, only to find that the driver was the president.  Giving him a warning, Policeman West let President Grant go.  Within a day’s time, West stopped another driver to find it was, once again, the president.  This time, President Grant was arrested, booked, and paid a fine.  King David is a prime example of a Biblical person doing wrong. Covering up his affair with Bathsheba, he ordered her husband, Uriah, to be placed in harm’s way and killed (2 Samuel 11:14-15).  We can all be caught in wrongdoing.

The Golden Valley Christian Church enjoyed their monthly carry-in meal last Sunday.  This time, it was done with a bit of sadness as we honored Chris and Abby Rush on their last day with us; they have been so active and helpful during their three years with us, and they will be sorely missed! During the church service, Bob Fenwick beautifully sang an inspiring song, “Help Is on the Way.”

When Jesus ascended into Heaven, He left a mission for His followers.  In Bro. Tim’s message, “Reaching Out,” with scripture from John 15:8, he continued to discuss this mission of spreading the Good News.  We should be prepared to discuss our own encounters of the hope He gives us.  Bro. Tim gave us three questions he suggested we write and answer on a sheet of paper, and then place this in our purse or wallet:  1) How has Jesus given me hope in my life?  2) How have I found love and acceptance through Jesus and the Church?  3) How have I been connected to God through the Church?  Answering these questions will help us talk to others.

The Bible challenge question:  What physical difference did a “huge man” in the Philistine army have? (2 Sam 21:20)
