Golden Valley Christian Church

A couple of weeks ago, a "super moon" rose into the night sky.  The moon was much larger and brighter because it was the nearest to earth as it ever gets.  Genesis tells us "God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night."  The moon also controls the tides of our great oceans.  When we study the Bible, we can see the wisdom in each of God's creations.

Tim's message was based on Jesus' words, recorded by Paul in Acts 20:35, "It is better to give than to receive," asking the question, "Who is More Blessed?"  Offering to God one-tenth of our income is an ancient service that includes promised blessing in the examples of Old and New Testament worship to God.  So why do Christians not tithe (give 1/10 of their income)?  Here are three reasons: 1) They do not believe God will keep His promises, 2) They believe the practice is trying to manipulate God into providing wealth and health, 3) They question if tithing is still part of God's plan for Christians.  Although giving a tithe is not commanded in the New Testament, the amount we should give is based on what we have, not what we wish we had.  A tithe is the common Biblical example of a starting point for our generosity.  God is not concerned with the amount we give, but with our attitude when we give.  God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7).  Jesus encouraged us to give generously, and to be prepared to receive equally generous blessings from God (Luke 6:38).

The Bible challenge question is:  "Who issued the order of Jesus' death by crucifixion?'"  (Mark 15:15)

The Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton.  Our Sunday Bible classes begin at 9:30 AM, and morning worship is at 10:30 AM.  Our full-time minister is Bro. Tim Randall (office phone #660-890-0252), and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org.  We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.
