The technology of today is amazing.  The new smart phones and computers of today can perform acts that would have been in the realm of “unbelievable” fifty years ago.  During the recent Vacation Bible School at GVCC, one of the teachers sent texts to a helper, as a visual lesson, for the children to see.  The texts were sent with visions of fireworks and balloons.  The children were in awe at this amazing sight.  As awesome as these texts were, they pale in comparison to the mighty works of our God.  If we stop to think about it, our God created the earth and the inhabitants on it (Gen 1:27-31). There will never be a machine that can duplicate this miracle.

GVCC honored the fathers last Sunday.  Some of the youth in the church handed out small gifts to each father, showing our appreciation to the fathers of our church.  The youngsters brought us one of the songs they learned in VBS.  Watching these children perform is such joy.  Directing and executing an activity like VBS takes a lot of work and dedication on the part of many people.  There is a ton of thanks the congregation gives to Melynne Jones and the many people who helped her.  We give thanks to God for these willing workers.  There is a video showing parts of this year’s VBS on the GVCC website.

Bro. Tim’s message, taken from Job 1:1-5, focused on the part that fathers play in their children’s lives.  The first five verses of Job show what a loving, caring father he was.  All children need to be shown love, and that love is very special coming from a father.  Loving discipline is an absolute necessity in rearing a child.  Job prayed for his children, teaching them the right way to live.  Job remains an example of a faithful, blameless man that loved God.  Fathers help their children, holding their hand, taking one step at a time.  This is what our Father in Heaven does for us.

The Bible challenge question:  Why did God forbid marriages between Israelites and the nations of Canaan? (Deut 7:3-4)
