Have you ever asked God to do something for you in exchange for something you will do for God?  These kinds of promises can backfire on people and are definitely not the kind of prayers God wants.  God does not want to "barter" with His children.  Today's Bible question deals with this very situation.  It is necessary to do God's will because we desire to please Him, not in exchange for what He will do for us.

We want to thank JoAnn Wade and Georgia Randall for filling in as pianist and song leader during the absence of Ken and Marla Jones.  Music is an important part of our worship service, and our musicians are appreciated.  We were also blessed in music by a beautifully sung son, "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," by Sarah Plesinger, granddaughter of Jo Ann Snider.

Celebrating Father's Day was the theme of Bro. Tim's message, with scripture from the book of Joshua.  Bro. Tim pointed out how it can never be overstated as to how much influence a father can have with his children.  A father sets examples in his life, good or bad, that his children will follow.  It is a father's duty to help his children know God and be their spiritual leader, as Joshua was to the children of Israel.  Probably the most quoted verse from Joshua was this proclamation from Chapter 24, Verse 15:  ". . . But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

The Bible challenge question is:  "What was the story of the vow Jephthah gave to God?'"  (Judges 11:30-34)
